Piano tuning

Piano tuning – maintaining proper pitch and sound stability

A piano is a mechanical instrument with a complex construction, in which strings remain under high tension. Over time, due to temperature changes, humidity and natural stretching of strings, the pitch gradually decreases. Regular tuning allows maintaining proper pitch and even string tension throughout the instrument.

It is recommended to perform tuning at least once a year, even when the piano is not intensively used. This is important not only for sound quality, but also for maintaining the stability of the frame construction and mechanism.

Service range:

– Standard tuning with mechanism correction.
– Tuning with pitch raising not more than a quarter tone. A4 is not lower than 435 Hz
– Tuning with pitch raising more than a quarter tone. A4 is lower than 435 Hz – (for this tuning, double tuning is recommended – second stabilizing, equalizing tuning)

Regular tuning allows maintaining tuning stability. It is recommended to tune at least once a year.

Piano mechanism regulation

Mechanism and keyboard regulation

Over time, the keyboard mechanism may lose its original precision of operation. This manifests itself in slower key return to rest position or improper string damping. Mechanism regulation involves performing a series of precise adjustments to mechanism elements so that key movement is smooth and mechanism response is correct and repeatable.

The service includes setting key height and depth of travel, regulating hammer release point, equalizing damper operation, and correcting individual moving parts of the mechanism.

A properly regulated mechanism ensures even operation of all keys and allows for precise control during playing.

Piano voicing

Voicing in piano or upright

Voicing is an intervention in the hardness of hammer felt, the purpose of which is to equalize the tone color of the entire instrument.

With intensive use of the instrument, the hammer felt loses its proper hardness. This can cause dulling or uneven sound of individual notes.

Properly performed voicing allows restoring even tone color and the full dynamic range of the instrument.
